citizenship and commitment in the raven

This essay is going to talk about two values, commitment and citizenship. We have to compare them first to the start of The Raven to see if they are present or not. These values represent something that is very bright, thoughtful and amicable. They are values you expect in a relationship between two people or are present in a community environment. They express reliability and goodness, and would generally be used in a learning context. To help our understanding of the subject, we first have to define this values, compare them with each other and then to the story The raven by Edgar Allan Poe. The value of commitment is about doing something as promised or as agreed. For example, when you agree to take care of a friend’s pet, you have a commitment to your friend to do it right and take care of the pet well. A commitment involves a two party agreement and consent. It involves more than one person in a general context, but a person can have a commitment with themselves to, like promising to yourself you will be a better dancer. The value of citizenship means and could be defines like the act of following the laws and belonging to a country. When you participate in your country’s votings you are practicing your citizenship, or your right as a citizen in a country. Ok, starting the comparison between the values and the actions of the characters or events that happen in the story now, for example, when the man is alone in his house, thinking about his sadness and grief, being all alone in his thoughts, he doesn’t show any of this values, because he is all alone. We do not even know what country is the main character or narrator form, so we can throw away the value of citizenship, since there is nothing, not even one reference to it in the story, its is technically impossible for someone reading this story to relate it to citizenship in any way. But even if it is not very easy to analyze, we can compare some aspects of the story way  more deeply to the value of commitment. The only character, or we should say active character in the story other than the main character or narrator is the Raven, but even at some moments we see the bird as more of a symbol than a character, but we can assume that the bird and the main character have a sort of commitment. The main character can not seem to be able to get rid of the memory of his lost loved one, which is seen in the form of the Raven, even if he tries or he thought that the bird would leave him in the morning like others did, the bird did not leave. We can see the Raven is trying to make the character understand something, but the narrator is so caught up on his obsession and anger that he stopped trying to understand the bird and became insane. Since the bird doesn’t leave the man or main character alone, we are able to say that these two have a sort of commitment. They depend on each other for context in the story. Without the raven, the man’s true feelings and rage would not be demonstrated in the story, and without the man the raven would not have any message to convey in the story. I therefore conclude that this values are definitely not what a person thinks the first time they read the story, but only after further studying and analyzing can someone find even a small similarity between them and the story.
